Why OTL

Why use Invoice Generator

One tool, three document types

Switch between Invoice, Quote, and Receipt without starting over — each gets the right labels, defaults, and status options automatically.

Live preview, real PDF

The preview updates as you type and uses the exact same totals engine as the exported PDF, so what you see is always what you get.

Remembers everything, locally

Your business profile, saved clients, and full document history are kept in this browser so the next invoice starts pre-filled.

Per-item or single tax rate

Charge one overall tax rate, or give each line item its own rate — with discounts applied proportionally so the tax mix stays correct.

Your own logo and accent color

Upload a logo and pick an accent color so the finished document looks like it came from your business, not a generic template.

Nothing uploaded, no watermark

Every field, calculation, and PDF export happens locally in your browser — no account, no signup, and no watermark on the download.

Real-world use

Who uses Invoice Generator

Billing a client as a freelancer or small business

Build a professional invoice with your logo and branding, then download a real PDF to email or print.

Sending a quote before starting work

Use the Quote type to send a priced estimate with a "valid until" date, then duplicate it into an invoice once it's accepted.

Giving a customer a receipt for a completed sale

Use the Receipt type for a simple, dated confirmation of a payment already received.

Rebilling the same client repeatedly

Save the client once, then pick them from your saved list on every future invoice instead of retyping their details.

Applying a discount without breaking the tax math

Enter a flat or percentage discount and let the tool handle proportional tax allocation across line items automatically.

Deep dive

About Invoice Generator

Most free invoice generators fall into one of two camps: bare-bones tools that produce a plain, generic-looking PDF, or "free" tools that gate the actual download behind a signup or a watermark. This one does neither — it's a genuinely full-featured document builder (invoice, quote, or receipt, from the same tool) with a real-time visual preview, a logo upload, an accent color you control, and a clean PDF export, with no account and no watermark.

The calculation engine follows one clear, explicit order: each line's amount is quantity times rate, those sum to a subtotal, a discount (flat or percentage) is applied and capped so it can never exceed the subtotal, tax is computed on the discounted amount — proportionally per item if you're using per-item tax rates, so a discount doesn't distort the relative tax mix — and shipping is added last, after tax, without being taxed itself. That's the same order used to build the on-screen live preview and the exported PDF, so what you see while editing is always exactly what downloads.

Everything you enter is remembered for next time, entirely in this browser: your business name, email, logo, and address are saved as a reusable profile; clients you bill are saved with one click so you can pick them from a list instead of retyping an address every time; and every invoice, quote, or receipt you save is kept in a local history you can reopen, duplicate, or delete. A draft of whatever you're currently working on auto-saves as you type, so an accidental tab close or reload doesn't lose your progress.

The exported PDF is generated with real vector text, not a rasterized image of the preview, so it stays sharp at any zoom level and the text can be selected, searched, and copied by whoever receives it. Due dates support common presets — due on receipt, net 15, net 30, net 45, net 60, or a custom date — and a document can be marked draft, sent, or paid (or accepted, for quotes), which shows a diagonal "PAID" watermark on the preview and PDF. None of this — your business details, your client's information, or the amounts on the invoice — is ever sent to a server; it all stays in this browser tab and this browser's local storage.

Pro tips

Pro tips

  • The invoice, quote, or receipt number auto-fills with a sensible next number, but it's fully editable — type your own numbering scheme any time and the tool will remember you customized it.
  • Per-item tax rates are useful when different products or services on the same document are taxed differently; otherwise the single overall tax rate is simpler and faster to fill in.
  • Marking a document "Paid" (or "Accepted" for a quote) adds a diagonal watermark to both the live preview and the exported PDF — a clear visual signal for anyone who receives it.
  • Duplicating a saved document from History is the fastest way to rebill a repeat client — it copies everything and assigns a fresh document number automatically.
  • Everything auto-saves as a draft while you work, so closing the tab by accident won't lose what you've entered — reopen the tool and it picks up where you left off.

Privacy & security

An invoice usually has your business details and a client's information on it — data that shouldn't have to pass through a stranger's server just to become a PDF.

Every field, calculation, and PDF export happens locally in your browser using real code, not a server round-trip.

Your business profile, saved clients, and document history are stored only in this browser's local storage — never uploaded anywhere.

No account, email, or login required to create or download a document.

Clearing your browser's site data for this page removes everything saved here, the same as it would for any other local-only tool.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is this tool free to use?

Yes, completely free, with no limits on how many invoices, quotes, or receipts you create, and no watermark on the downloaded PDF.

Does this send my business or client data anywhere?

No — every field, calculation, and PDF export happens locally in your browser. Your business profile, saved clients, and document history are stored only in this browser's local storage, never on a server.

Will my saved clients and history be there if I come back tomorrow?

Yes, as long as you use the same browser on the same device and don't clear your browsing data — everything is saved in that browser's local storage, which persists between visits.

Can I use this on a different computer or share my saved data with someone else?

Not directly — since everything is stored locally in one browser, it doesn't sync across devices or browsers. Download the PDF to share the finished document itself.

What's the difference between an invoice, a quote, and a receipt here?

They share the same tool and calculation engine but use different labels and defaults: an invoice requests payment with a due date, a quote offers a price that's valid until a date, and a receipt confirms a payment already made.

Troubleshooting

Why is my document number different from what I typed?

The number field is fully editable — if it doesn't match what you expect, check that you didn't switch document type after typing a custom number, since an untouched number auto-updates its prefix (INV-, QUO-, RCT-) to match the current type until you edit it directly.

Why did the tax amount change when I applied a discount?

Tax is calculated on the discounted subtotal, not the original one — with per-item tax rates, each item's discount share is proportional to its share of the subtotal, so the overall tax mix stays consistent rather than distorted by the discount.

My logo isn't showing up in the PDF — why?

Make sure the upload is a standard image file (PNG or JPG); it's automatically resized before being embedded, and an unsupported or corrupted image will be skipped rather than breaking the PDF.

I closed the tab — is my invoice gone?

No — the document you're working on auto-saves as a draft in your browser as you type, so reopening the tool restores exactly where you left off, as long as you're using the same browser on the same device.
