Why OTL

Why use Age Calculator

Calendar-accurate breakdown

Computes real years, months, and days the way a person would count them by hand — not a rough days-divided-by-365 estimate.

Two calculators in one

Switch between age-from-birth-date and difference-between-any-two-dates without needing separate tools.

Every unit shown at once

Years/months/days plus total days, weeks, hours, and minutes — all displayed together.

Business days mode

See the weekday-only count between two dates, excluding weekends, for project and deadline planning.

Next birthday countdown

See exactly which day of the week the next birthday falls on, and how many days away it is.

Nothing uploaded

Every calculation runs locally in your browser using plain date arithmetic.

Deep dive

About Age Calculator

"How old am I, exactly?" and "how many days until this deadline?" are two versions of the same underlying calculation — the calendar-accurate difference between two dates — and this tool handles both with the same engine, switching between an age-focused mode and a general date-difference mode.

The calculation itself is more subtle than it looks. Simply dividing total days by 365 gives a wrong or misleading answer, because it ignores leap years and the fact that calendar months have different lengths. This tool computes a genuine calendar-aware breakdown — the same way a person counts age by hand, walking forward in whole years, then whole months, then remaining days — so "24 years, 6 months, 13 days" means exactly what it says, verified against known edge cases including leap-year birthdays and month-length transitions (like a birth date of January 31st, which doesn't exist in every following month).

Beyond the headline years/months/days figure, every result also shows the total elapsed time in days, weeks, hours, and minutes — useful for anyone who needs the precise total rather than the calendar breakdown, like calculating exact eligibility windows or contract durations.

The business-days option answers a specific, common question the basic breakdown doesn't: how many working days actually fall between two dates, excluding weekends — useful for estimating a project timeline or a notice period specified in business days rather than calendar days. Everything computes instantly and locally using plain date arithmetic.

Pro tips

Pro tips

  • A birth date of the 29th, 30th, or 31st is handled correctly even in months that don't have that many days — the calculation clamps to the last valid day rather than producing an invalid or negative result.
  • "Total days" and "years/months/days" can tell different stories for the same span — 366 total days can still be exactly "1 year, 0 months, 0 days" if it happens to include a leap day.
  • Business days mode counts weekends only — it doesn't account for public holidays, since those vary by country and region.
  • For contract or legal deadlines specifying "business days," always double-check the exact definition being used, since some agreements also exclude public holidays.
  • The date-difference mode works equally well for past or future date pairs — it isn't limited to birth dates.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is this tool free to use?

Yes, completely free with no limits, and no account needed.

How is my data handled?

All date calculations run locally in your browser using plain JavaScript date arithmetic — nothing is sent to a server.

How is age calculated exactly?

By counting forward from the start date in whole years, then whole months, then remaining days — the same way a person would count age by hand, handling leap years and varying month lengths correctly.

Does business days mode account for public holidays?

No — it excludes weekends only, since public holidays vary by country and region and aren't something a general calculator can assume correctly.

Can I use this for a deadline in the future, not just past dates?

Yes — date difference mode works for any two dates, whether both are in the past, both in the future, or a mix.

Stuck?

Troubleshooting

I get an error saying the first date must be before the second

Both modes expect the earlier date first and the later date second — swap the two dates if they're in the wrong order.

Why does a birth date on the 31st show a different day count some months?

Months without a 31st day are handled by counting to the last valid day of that month — this is expected calendar behavior, not an error.

The business day count seems low

Business days mode excludes Saturdays and Sundays only — if the date range spans a holiday period, those days are still counted as business days since holidays aren't factored in.

Can I calculate age as of a future or past date, not just today?

Yes — in Age Calculator mode, change the "as of" date to any date, past or future, to see the age at that point in time.
