Most free keyword extraction tools do one thing: analyze a single block of text and hand back a list of words ranked by frequency. That's useful as far as it goes, but it misses the question content writers and SEOs actually ask most often — not "what keywords are in this text" but "what keywords is my competitor using that I'm not," or "what changed between this draft and the last one."
This tool covers both. For a single text, it extracts single-word keywords by frequency and multi-word key phrases using RAKE (Rose et al., 2010) — a genuine, corpus-free statistical algorithm that scores phrases by how often their component words co-occur with other words, which is exactly why it doesn't need a large reference dataset to work on just one document. The result is shown two ways: an interactive word cloud sized by frequency for a fast visual read, and a scored list for precise reference.
Compare mode is the feature most keyword tools skip entirely. Paste a second text alongside the first, and the tool runs the same extraction on both, then computes the overlap: keywords present in both texts, keywords unique to Text A, and keywords unique to Text B. Troubleshooting
My compare mode results look lopsided
This is usually because the two texts differ significantly in length — the longer text will naturally surface more unique terms. Try comparing texts of similar length for a fairer gap analysis.
The key phrases look a bit like sentence fragments
RAKE extracts stopword-delimited word runs, capped at 3 words here for readability — on narrative prose (versus technical or list-style writing), phrases can occasionally read less like clean noun phrases. The single-word keyword list is the more precise option when that happens.
Compare mode isn't showing any shared keywords
This means the two texts genuinely don't overlap in their top-ranked terms — a real and sometimes useful finding, not a bug.
The word cloud looks empty or very small
This happens with very short text, since there isn't enough content to establish meaningful word frequency — try a longer sample.
